Meta is betting that “privacy” can be a product feature rather than just a policy promise. In a new announcement, CEO Mark Zuckerberg says Meta AI is getting an Incognito Chat mode designed to protect what you type—and what the assistant replies—using two layers of privacy: no server-side conversation log and end-to-end encryption.

The pitch is straightforward but ambitious. Zuckerberg frames Incognito Chat as a major step beyond the incognito modes many AI chat apps already offer. Those modes may hide your conversation from your visible chat history, but they often still involve servers receiving your prompts and generating responses in ways that can be observed internally. Meta’s claim is that its version is different: it’s meant to prevent not only casual retention, but also access to the content itself—even by Meta.
